Robbie earns major Chanel contract

-

Margot Robbie has been named Chanel’s latest brand ambassador.

The Australian actress attended the Academy Awards on Sunday night, where she was nominated for best actress for her portrayal of disgraced American figure skater Tonya Harding in the movie I, Tonya.

Though she lost out in the category to Frances McDormand (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Robbie still had plenty to celebrate, as a Chanel representative confirmed that she would be the French luxury label’s new house ambassador just before the event.

While Robbie has worn Chanel on the red carpet on numerous occasions of late — including for the Oscar nominees luncheon and for this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards, according to Harper’s Bazaar, the Chanel ambassador designation marks the 27-year-old star’s first major contract in the fashion industry.

For Sunday night’s Oscars, Robbie sported a custom white Chanel gown with off-the-shoulder neckline designed by creative director Karl Lagerfeld, which was matched with a Chanel bag and jewelry, as well as Roger Vivier shoes.

“I can’t believe I’m wearing a haute couture dress made for me by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel,” she told reporters on the red carpet outside the Dolby Theatre.

“It’s a fantasy. I feel like myself but still as glamorous as I’ve ever dreamt I would at the Oscars.”

Robbie follows in the footsteps of Vanessa Paradis and Kristen Stewart in being tapped as a Chanel brand ambassador.
