Country music stars to perform Humboldt benefit gig on April 27
A tribute concert to honour the Humboldt Broncos will bring together some of the biggest stars from the Canadian country music scene.
The lineup for the concert, organized by Country Thunder Music Festivals, was announced Wednesday. Among those scheduled to play at the April 27 concert at Saskatoon’s SaskTel Centre are Juno Award winners Dallas Smith, Brett Kissel and Jess Moskaluke, plus Gord Bamford, Chad Brownlee and The Hunter Brothers.
Country Thunder chief executive Troy Vollhoffer said money raised from the event will be donated to the families of the Humboldt Broncos players. Tickets were scheduled to go on sale Tuesday at noon.
Finding an appropriate and timely date to hold a tribute concert was important for the cause, Vollhoffer said.
“To maximize the ability to raise money to actually help these folks out is an immediate situation,” he added.
“There’s no questions asked and everyone is donating their time.”
The tragic collision between the Broncos team bus and a semi on April 6 on a Saskatchewan highway killed 16 people.
A GoFundMe page dedicated to the hockey team raised around $14 million in the 10 days since it launched.
Former NHL players and other special guests are also scheduled to appear at the fundraiser.
