It’s OK to stand at Eagles’ show but ‘be respectful’

-

REGINA After a swift reaction from excited concertgoers, the organizers behind The Eagles concert at Mosaic Stadium in Regina are clarifying the position about standing during Thursday’s show.

Contrary to a fact sheet distributed by the venue stating guests would be asked to remain seated during the concert, security will not be cracking down on everyone who stands for a song or two, according to Neil Donnelly, the Memorial Cup event chair.

“The message that is meant to be sent out is more about: Be respectful of those around you,” Donnelly said Monday. “Come and have fun. If you want to get up and go for a beer, if you want to get up and cheer at the end of a song, (that’s fine). If everybody’s standing and wants to stand, then by all means.”

Donnelly said standing will only be an issue if one person is standing and blocking the view of a group of people.

The concert is part of the opening ceremonies for the 100th Memorial Cup, which runs May 17 to 27 at Regina’s Brandt Centre.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with Memorial

Cup opening ceremonies starting at 7 p.m. The band is expected to take the stage at 8:30 p.m.

There are still tickets available for the show.

Donnelly said security will also be relaxed about prohibiting photos on cellphones, as long as guests aren’t blocking sight lines by taking lengthy videos.

The information, which was derived from The Eagles’ security rider, sparked a passionate response from people online.

“With all this going around, it’s clearly going to be the message to our people when they’re working the event,” he said.

The Eagles are currently touring with longtime members Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit along with Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, the son of late band member Glenn Frey who died on Jan. 18, 2016.

Guests are asked to come early because of the anticipated large crowds.

While smoking will be permitted in outdoor designated smoking areas

only, there will be no re-entry into the stadium.

No on-site parking is available unless guests have an Eagles parking pass. Passes, which can be acquired at the Brandt Centre box office or online, must be purchased before Thursday.

Elphinstone Street will be closed at 3 p.m. Thursday.

Regina’s free shuttle service will be in effect from 5:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. prior to the event. After the show, the shuttle will run for an hour. Shuttles will run from the same locations as Roughriders games (Northgate Mall, Victoria Square Mall, Southland Mall, downtown and the Warehouse District). Event-goers can also ride regular transit or paratransit by showing their concert ticket.

Come and have fun. If you want to get up and go for a beer, if you want to get up and cheer at the end of a song, (that’s fine).
