Man charged with dangerous driving and evading police

-

A 42-year-old man is charged with numerous offences, including dangerous driving and evading police, after a brief police chase in Saskatoon.

Just after 5 a.m. on Wednesday an officer noted a vehicle being driven in “an erratic dangerous manner” in the 500 block of Avenue X South, police said in a news release. When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver accelerated and attempted to flee.

Police ended the pursuit a few seconds later due to safety reasons.

Officers then located the car abandoned on the Circle Drive and 22nd Street overpass. A police dog was then able to track the suspect to a dumpster in the 3300 block of Fairlight Drive.

Once located, he failed to obey police commands and pepper spray was used to conclude the arrest.

The man is also charged with possession of methamphetamine, obstruction and two counts of breaching probation orders.

Police said the man was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
