Since 2012, D & S Homes has been proud to supply the grand prize homes for the STARS Lottery in both Saskatoon and Regina.

Supporting the STARS Foundation Lottery is a cause near and dear to the Slater family, who established D & S Homes over 40 years ago. “It’s an organization that our family is proud to support. They save so many lives across the province and benefit so many families,” says Dennis Slater, president of D & S Homes.

STARS stands for Shock Trauma Air Rescue Service. The organization’s state-of-the-art red helicopters fly an average of three missions a day, totalling 840 missions a year in Saskatchewan, providing life-saving rapid emergency care for critically ill and injured people across the province.

The STARS Lottery is the organization’s largest fundraiser of the year. Only 50 per cent of the cost of STARS emergency services is covered by the Saskatchewan government. The remaining 50 per cent, equalling $10.5 million, must be raised by the STARS Foundation, says Mark Oddan, the organization’s communications lead for Saskatchewan.

The longtime partnership with D & S Homes is something STARS values, says Oddan. “The expertise, care and attention they put into developing these homes is very important to us, but more than that, their support of our organization and of our mission means so much.”

D & S Homes goes all out when designing and building these luxury-laden homes in support of STARS, says Derrick Slater, the builder’s lead project manager.

The magnificent two-storey walkout home is located at 311 Greenbryre Crescent on a halfacre lot. Derrick says the home’s location in Greenbryre Estates is a big part of its appeal. Greenbryre Estates is the upscale acreage community developed by D & S surrounding the 12-hole Greenbryre Golf Course.

The four-bedroom home delivers 3,549 square feet of luxurious living space on three levels. “We wanted to achieve contemporary flair with some touches of vintage here and there,” says Derrick.

GA Interiors consulted on many aspects of the home’s interior design while Garden Architecture and Design sourced and supplied the interior furnishings, accessories and artwork.

The home’s main floor offers an inviting open concept great room, featuring a wall of windows overlooking the mammoth backyard. The kitchen is particularly spectacular, with seemingly endless quartz countertops, a white porcelain farmhouse sink, Shaker-style Prosecco cabinets and must-see white designer appliances. The beaded glass backsplash adds a touch of sparkle to the room.

Adjoining the kitchen is a large mud room with custom lockers and bench seating, leading into a walk-through butler’s pantry.

The focal point of the room is an amazing glass staircase, which leads to the home’s second floor and walkout level. “It’s all custom glass. The railing work is by BP Banister. It was quite a job. The whole process took about three weeks,” says Derrick.

At the top of the stairs is a cosy library nook, ideal for relaxing. The two kids’ bedrooms guarantee children living in the home will have lots of room to grow.

The laundry room has a unique walk-through layout, offering easy access to all of the bedrooms on the second floor.

The master suite is huge, with large windows overlooking the acreage property. A unique tray ceiling highlights the designer light fixture over the bed.

A rolling barn door opens to reveal the opulent ensuite, featuring two separate quartz-topped floating vanities and a six-foot walk-in shower custom finished in tile and river rock accents. The ensuite leads into a spacious walkthrough closet.

The home’s walkout level is designed for entertaining, offering a gigantic family room with a custom bar crafted from maple and a natural gas fireplace with a slate tile surround.

“There’s infloor heating in the basement, with different zones for the family room, bedroom and bathroom,” says Derrick.
