Singer returns to Bassment after ‘fantastic’ show

Box office: 306-683-2277, thebassment.ca Sonia Reid Noble is busy reclaiming her musical life but her twoyear-old is having something to say about it. When they sing together, she objects.
“‘ Stop. Stop, mama, no sing, no sing,’ ” Reid Noble quotes her daughter.
“The other day I said to her, you do realize that people actually like to hear me sing ? Apparently, she’s decided that if she’s singing it’s her moment — can I blame her?”
With two kids under four, the Saskatoon gospel-soul singer has had to limit her public appearances.
But that started to change last year when she took a chance and booked a night at the Bassment. A capacity crowd greeted her. “It was fantastic. The one thing that resonated with me other than being able to perform again in that capacity was the moment that I realize that the place was packed. The amount of support that I felt from the community here was tremendous. I’ll never forget that moment.”
She returns, this time for two nights, May 31 and June 1.
Reid Noble will be doing her version of spirituals and original music. She’s working on a new album, Sparrow, and will debut some tracks from that.

from the show for free, mixed and mastered that night.
Reid Noble credits her producer and drummer Hal Shrenk for the unique idea.
“This is something that’s never been done in Saskatoon. I have no problem being the first one to do it.”
Reid Noble’s band for the Bassment shows will feature Grant Sotnikow (keyboards), Jonathan Hutchinson (Hammond B3), Graham Tilsley (guitar), Jesse Dawson ( bass) and Hal Schrenk (drums).
Also coming up for Reid Noble is an opening spot for Dee Dee Bridgewater at the SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival on June 26 at the Broadway Theatre.
