Alley parking is a an illegal hazard
Re: Alley parking enforcement (SP, May 22)
As someone who lives adjacent to a park and an alley, I also think it’s important to get the news out about alley parking.
We have been working with the various baseball, slo-pitch and soccer leagues across the city to ensure parents and coaches know that parking in alleys is against city bylaws and has a negative effect on those who live there and those who use the parks.
In the past few years my neighbours and me have had our garages blocked off by parked cars multiple times. Our neighbours have been trapped in their yards as cars park in front of back entry gates.
And I can’t even count the amount of times we have seen cars parked on top of various back alley vegetable and fruit patches.
Not to mention the number of times our alley has been impassable due to the overwhelming number of cars parked there.
Alleys are not designed for parking and drivers create a hazard when they do park there.
Parked cars make it impossible for emergency vehicles to get down alleys.
Those parked cars also make it more dangerous for the numerous kids playing in those parks who don’t always take the time to look around obstructed views. The infuriating thing, at least in our case, is that there is plentiful street parking less than a half block away.
So please, don’t park in alleys.
On behalf of my raspberries and my ability to access my own garage, thank you.
