Mongolian-style lodging is coming to Blue Heron Provincial Park campground
Saskatchewan residents will soon have access to a new camping venue based on ancient Mongolian structures.
On Friday, the provincial government announced the opening of a yurt at Anglin Lake in Great Blue Heron Provincial Park.
The structure, which a provincial news release described as a meeting between nature and comfort, allows visitors to take in the park while sleeping comfortably in a shelter more substantial than a tent.
“The yurt is a great opportunity for guests to experience beautiful Anglin Lake in comfort and style with minimal packing and preparation required,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Gene Makowsky said in a release.
“Visitors can enjoy the best of both worlds, taking in the lush forests, calm lakes and wildlife in the park while sleeping in a cozy bed in a sheltered area.”
Equipped with a queen-sized bed and two double-sized futons, the yurt also includes a table and chairs, small fridge, electrical heater and battery-powered lamps.
Guests will be required to bring sleeping blankets, pillows, cooking and kitchen equipment, plus campfire chairs.
The yurt costs $95 to rent per night and reservations are now open.
