Police nab suspect in Confederation Park shooting
A 19-year-old man is in police custody facing firearm-related charges after a 22-year-old woman was shot in the hand from a vehicle that had stopped outside a Confederation Park apartment building.
Officers arrested the man without incident shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday after observing the suspect walking through the area while officers were conducting a traffic stop in the 300 block of Avenue R South.
Police are continuing to investigate and noted in a news release that more arrests in relation to the shooting are possible.
The shooting in the 600 block of Confederation Drive happened around 7 p.m. on Monday, according to a police news release. The shooting is not believed to a random attack, police said.
Police communications said the file is actively being investigated to determine what led up to the discharging of the firearm.
The woman was transported to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The victim was outside on her balcony when the shooting occurred. Police said the car was carrying four people — two men and two women — when it entered the parking lot.
It’s believed the shot was fired from the back seat of a dark fourdoor Volkswagen.
