Family identify teen as homicide victim
The victim of Saskatoon’s fourth homicide of 2018 was a 15-year-old boy named Cadence O’soup, family members confirmed Wednesday.
O’soup was pronounced dead on June 3 after officers received reports of an injured man in the 500 block of Avenue J South.
Police did not release the teen’s name. However, Cheona Badger, who identified herself as O’soup’s aunt-in-law, said in a Facebook message that while her nephew may have been rolling with a tough crowd, he’ll be remembered as “funny, silly and outgoing.”
Badger said O’soup “had a good heart” and a lot of “friends and family that loved him,” noting “he was always putting a smile on everyone.”
Photos posted to O’soup’s Facebook page depict young men wearing green bandanas, posing with stacks of money, various weapons and giving the camera the middle finger, but Badger said she didn’t know if he was a member or affiliated with any gangs in Saskatoon.
An autopsy was conducted on June 4. On Wednesday, city police issued a news release saying the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Police did not release any information about the precise cause of O’soup’s death, saying only that he died of injuries. Badger said it’s her understanding that O’soup was fatally shot. Police said more information will be released once the investigation is complete.
