For peace in Gaza, deal with Hamas

Re: Stand against violence in Gaza (SP, May 24)

This letter is not a fair assessment. Israel supplies electricity and water, along with other supplies to Gaza, even though these facilities have been the target of attacks from Gaza itself. The demonstrations are not peaceful, but violent. It fails to mention that Palestinians use women and children as human shields, while explosives and shots are taken at Israeli soldiers.

What do you think would happen to the local Israeli population if this violent, hate-filled mob was allowed to cross over into Israel? Obedkoff claims that Palestinians fled or were violently expelled from Israel when it was established as a nation.

She failed to mentioned who started the war against Israel when six nations attacked. She also fails to mention what have the neighbouring Arab nations done to help the Palestinians.

She also fails to mention that Hamas, an organization bent on destroying Israel at any cost, has taken over Gaza from the Palestinian Authority. Millions of dollars are poured into Gaza every year. Why is she not asking what happens to this money? You want peace in Gaza, deal with Hamas.

Israel is a small nation, the only democratic nation by the way, in this region. Surrounded by nations that want to eliminate them. If they do not protect themselves, who will?
