OTTAWA One marijuana possession charge down, another to go for Duron Carter.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ wide receiver/defensive back received an absolute discharge Monday in Winnipeg court after pleading guilty to a charge of marijuana possession. That charge was laid Nov. 25 after Carter was arrested at Winnipeg International Airport with possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana.

“I just felt it was the best situa- tion for me and how I’m doing and trying to progress through Canada and in my life,” Carter said after Thursday’s 40-17 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks.

Carter faces another marijuanapossession charge, dating back to Feb. 1 when he was arrested at Saskatoon International Airport. His next court date is June 27.

When asked about might happen in Saskatoon, Carter replied: “I don’t know ... you will read it in the newspaper.”

A CFL spokesman Friday said no decision has been made regarding Carter’s status.

On the field, it was an up-anddown game for Carter, who was making his second career start at cornerback.

Carter recorded his second CFL interception, returning a Trevor Harris pick 28 yards for a touchdown.

However, Carter was beaten on 56-yard touchdown catch by Diontae Spencer and also missed an attempted tackle of tailback William Powell.

Carter was also flagged for pass interference and illegal contact in the fourth quarter.

He is expected to remain at boundary cornerback while Nick Marshall (finger) is on the sixgame injured list.
