Roman Timmerman is on a roll.

Fresh from his first year of NCAA golf at Southern Arkansas and a recent Lobstick victory, Timmerman continued his torrid pace by winning the 2018 Great Western Brewing Saskatoon City Men’s Amateur golf championship Monday afternoon at Riverside Country Club.

Still only 19 years old, Timmerman finished seven strokes ahead of Saskatoon Golf and Country Club member Taylor Afseth in the three-day tournament, which included rounds at Saskatoon Golf and Country Club, Holiday Park and Riverside.

Timmerman was 5-under-par for the event with rounds of 6967-75.

“It’s definitely rounding into form,” he said. “Especially coming off from my first year of college and just playing every day, I think, really helped just staying in form and not having that long winter where you’re not practising or hitting golf balls. That’s probably why I’m seeing the results I’m having.”

Timmerman may be near peak form with some laser-sharp ballstriking. “I’d like to think I can get better, but I’m definitely hitting the ball pretty solid — probably the best I’ve ever hit it,” admitted Timmerman, a member at Riverside. “It’s working on the little things, short game and a lot of putts, just to keep improving.

“I hit a lot of greens and didn’t make too many mistakes, especially at the Saskatoon Club and Holiday.”

Timmerman shot a 38 through the front nine and 37 on the back. He carded two birdies, 12 pars, three bogeys and one double-bogey after going nearly bogey-free the first two days.

Afseth was the runner-up at 2-over par with rounds of 76-6775, with the 76 coming on his home SGCC course. Defending champion Justin Wood placed third at 3-over (74-71-74). David Stewart, who was second after two days, fell to fourth after struggling to an 81 Monday. Stewart (70-69-81) was tied for fourth with Jehremy Ryde (74-68-78).
