City golfer claims provincial amateur women’s title as Lloydminster player wins senior women’s event
After three rounds, Saskatoon’s Carla Odnokon came out on top in the Saskatchewan amateur women’s golf championship on Sunday, finishing nine shots ahead of her nearest competitor.
Scoring a 72 in Friday’s opening round and a 78 in both Saturday and Sunday’s round, Odnokon ended the championship with a 15-over 228.
Melville’s Chloe Sies and Regina’s Brooke Hill finished tied for second with a 24-over 237.
Meanwhile, Lloydminster’s Joanne Schiller finished with a 24over 237 and won the playoff round to take home the title of Saskatchewan senior women’s champion.
Moose Jaw’s Lorie Boyle, who lost to Schiller in the playoff, claimed second place, also with a 24-over 237, and Melfort’s Judy Sefton finished third with a 28over 241. Ann Kirkland of Saskatoon was fourth.
Saskatchewan falls to Manitoba in rugby
On the road in Winnipeg, Saskatchewan’s men’s rugby team suffered a pair of losses to the Manitoba Buffalo in the opening round of the Prairie Super League.
Saskatchewan lost 48-21 on Saturday, but came back to close the gap on Sunday, losing only 35-31.
Next weekend, the Saskatchewan team will have home-field advantage as they take on the Calgary Mavericks and Edmonton Gold in Regina.
Saskatoon water-skiers make national team
Josh Edwards and Carter Lucas, both of Saskatoon, are set to compete at the World Junior Water Ski Championships in Spain in August after being named to the six-person roster last week.
Joining Edwards and Lucas for the championships, which will run August 2-5, are Ontario’s Neilly Ross and Noah Mccormick, Alberta’s Sean Kraus and Nova Scotia’s Olivia Chute.
Wynyard Blues take fastball title
With a 9-1 victory over the Rhein Rockets in Saturday’s final, the Wynyard Blues captured the Richardson Pioneer Men’s Fastball League title for the second time in three years.
Mike Jordan earned the Playoff MVP award.
