Connor Scissons has jumped out to the lead at the 92nd annual Saskatchew­an junior men’s golf provincial championsh­ip at Moon Lake Golf and Country Club.

Despite a triple-bogey snowman-looking eight on Hole No. 11, Scissons carded a one-under-par 71 during opening-round action Monday.

He finished with five consecutiv­e birdies to close out his round, which included six birdies, nine pars, two bogeys and a triple on his card.

Adam Husli of Regina heads into Day 2 two shots off the pace following a one-over-par 73 Monday at Moon Lake. Husli carded 14 pars, two birds, a bogey and doubleboge­y.

Kindersley’s Connor Tate had a three-over 75 Monday, putting him alone in third heading into Tuesday ’s morning round at Moon Lake.

Braden O’grady of Edmonton, Alta., and Jace Carlisle, of Estevan, both shot a 2-over-par 74 on Monday, as did Battleford­s’ Colby Friedrich and Saskatoon’s Bradley Moser and Josh Nagy.

Brooklin Fry of Shell Lake leads the junior women’s event following an opening-day score of 83. She has a one-stroke lead over Deer Valley ’s Carey Mclean and sits two strokes up on Regina’s Alexandra Schmidt. Lauren Fox of Creighton heads into the second round three strokes behind the leader, while Sarah Grieve of Saskatoon and Moose Jaw ’s Ray-lyn Schmidt are next, four strokes back with a round of 87 Monday.
