SPLURGE SAVVY

Strategic extravagances elevate parade home’s elegant style, while remaining affordable

Maison Design + Build has perfected the formula for affordable elegance at its newest show home at 318 Dagnone Crescent. At 2,045 square feet and two storeys, it’s one of nine homes featured in the Brighton Parade of Homes, presented by Dream Development.

Strategic splurges elevate the style of this inviting family home while keeping overall costs down to earth, explains Jilaire Wagner, who co-owns Maison Design + Build with her husband Andrew. “We really tried to show how our curated list of products can be put together to look really, really elegant, but also be affordable. For example, in terms of flooring, everything in the house is under $10 a square foot.”

Maison selected the Jacqueline model home for the Brighton parade, a new addition to its Signature Series floor plans. These floor plans combine popular features from Maison’s outstanding custom-built homes with the money-saving efficiencies of a predesigned layout. At the same time, the Signature Series plans can be easily personalized with a wide range of design options.

“I feel like the Jacqueline is the perfect family home. We designed this plan for our site leader and his wife, Jacqueline, when they were building their first home. We’ve built the plan several times since then and we’ve further perfected it every time,” says Wagner.

The main-floor layout can be paired with three different secondfloor layouts, she explains, including two three-bedroom plans and one four-bedroom option.

With its modern French Country exterior, the Jacqueline is a standout on the Brighton parade route.

The home’s interior is equally impressive, featuring a chic blackand-white colour scheme.

The spacious living room features a spectacular tray ceiling with decorative beams and a seven-foot wide natural gas fireplace with custom-raised panel millwork and decorative scones. Field mulled individual architectural windows capture views of the adjacent park.

The living room flows gracefully into the kitchen and dining area. “The Jacqueline has a really amazing kitchen. The cabinets are crafted from black lacquered MDF, complemented by black stainless appliances. My favourite details in the kitchen are the bump-out for the cooktop area, as well as the custom-scalloped backsplash,” says Wagner.

A decorative black lacquer finished built-in china cabinet is both pretty and practical. An additional floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinet is just a few steps away, adjacent to the mud room that offers direct access to the double attached garage.

The mud room features a simple floating bench, large closet and easy-care tile floor. “You could do full-scale built-in lockers and cubbies if you wanted. The cost of built-ins does add to the price of the home. We wanted to show a simplified version of a mud room which homeowners could develop more fully, if they want, later on,” Wagner says.

The upper floor is divided into two zones. “The master suite is toward the back of the house to maximize the full park view. The children’s bedrooms, main bathroom and laundry room are toward the front of the house,” says Wagner.

The spacious master bedroom will easily accommodate a kingsized bed with room to spare for a reading nook or computer station. Custom profile barn doors open to reveal a lavish ensuite, featuring a nine-foot long custom vanity with a waterfall quartz countertop, an oval soaker tub highlighted by a chandelier and a custom tile shower with built-in glass shelving.

The ensuite leads into a chandelier-lit walk-in closet with a built-in dresser, lots of shelves and hanging options. Wagner says, “You don’t need a dresser in the bedroom because there’s so much storage in the walk-in closet.”

Wagner says the Brighton Parade of Homes offers benefits to consumers and builders alike. “It allows people who are looking for houses to really explore their options and check out a bunch of different builders and pick one who fits with their values. That’s really kind of special.”

The parade homes on the 300 block of Dagnone Crescent are open for viewing Thursdays from 5 to 9 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 12 noon to 5 p.m. For more details about this home, visit www.maisondesignbuild.ca.
