Hallberg boasts three-day score of 227 to secure senior men’s golf crown
Rick Hallberg is the new Saskatchewan senior men’s golf champion.
Hallberg fired a 77 Thursday for a three-day score of 227 (7476-77) to give him a three-shot victory over two-day leader Ken Rodgers of Regina (73-76-81—230) and Saskatoon’s Tony Turay (7776-77—230). Biggar’s Keith Silvernagle finished fourth, four shots off the pace with a three-day score of 231 (75-78-78).
Delisle’s Colin Coben (76-8178— 235) placed sixth, followed by Saskatoon’s Chuck Hainsworth (81-80-77—238).
Carlyle’s Jason Mohr won the Saskatchewan mid-masters crown with a one-shot victory over Hallberg.
Mohr had a three-day score of 226 (76-77-73).
Rodgers and Turay finished tied for third in the mid-master’s (40plus) category.
The 2018 Canadian men’s senior golf championship will be played Sept. 4-7 at the Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club in Bathurst, N.B.
Meanwhile, at the Canadian Amateur women’s golf championship taking place at the Marine Drive Golf Club in Vancouver, B.C., all four Saskatchewan golfers missed the cut.
Saskatoon’s Carla Odnokon shot rounds of 78-80.
Regina’s Brooke Hill carded an 84 and 86.
Melville’s Chloe Sies shot a pair of 88s, while 12-year-old Ella Kozak of Yorkton settled for a 97 and a 93.
