MARCHING IN THE STREETS
Annual parade kicks off Saskatoon Exhibition
Participants, spectators, and animals will come together as the annual parade kicking off the first day of the Saskatoon Ex weaves through downtown.
“It has been around for as long as I can remember,” said Kristy Rempel, marketing manager for the Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corporation.
“It used to be the Traveller’s Day parade, and then it was something that the exhibition staff took over.”
The parade will start Tuesday at 10 a.m. Rempel said it takes about an hour and a half for all of the floats to make their way through downtown, and people can expect to see a lot of different entries — there’s approximately 100 each year.
“It’s typically enough time to get out of downtown and get yourself down for 10 Dollar Tuesday at the exhibition,” she said.
The Saskatoon Ex will offer various theme days throughout the week; on 10 Dollar Tuesday, admission for all ages all day will be only $10.
The parade route has not changed this year, and will begin at 24th Street and Spadina Crescent East, head west on 24th Street to Fourth Avenue, then south on Fourth Avenue to 20th Street, east on 20th Street to Spadina Crescent East, and finally north on Spadina Crescent East to 24th Street, dispersing on Spadina Crecent West in the marshalling area.
Float of the year and other awards will be given out at the parade.
The winning entries, as well as more information about the Saskatoon Ex, can be found on the Saskatoon Ex website, saskatoonexhibition.ca.
