RCMP to resume search for missing boy

-

REGINA The RCMP says its dive team will be redeployed next week as the search for Greagan Geldenhuys continues.

This time, the RCMP’s underwater recovery team will use sonar technology to search for the missing seven-year-old boy. According to a release issued Friday, the earliest the dive team can redeploy is Tuesday. This is because the team requires a certain number of divers present to operate safely.

On Thursday, the RCMP issued a release saying the underwater recovery team had finished its efforts in the search for Greagan. Police said the search would continue with boats and a helicopter. The helicopter and boat are now on standby should they be needed for further searches.

Greagan was last seen with his mother, Tamaine, on Aug. 24 at B-Say-Tah beach on Echo Lake. Tamaine’s body was found several kilometres away on a beach near the Fort Qu’Appelle campground — but there was no sign of her young son. The RCMP issued a statement on Monday indicating the search for Greagan had turned into a “recovery mission.”

The RCMP said there is no evidence of foul play in Tamaine’s death, or in the disappearance of her son.

Police are asking residents check their properties for any sign of Greagan.

Fort Qu’Appelle RCMP also thanked the community for its efforts to locate Greagan. More than 100 volunteers have joined a search being led by Greagan’s family members.
