FARMHOUSE CHIC

Warman show home boasts style and family-friendly extras

- JEANNIE ARMSTRONG jarmstrong@postmedia.com

Neu Homes is one of the newest member builders of the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders Association (SRHBA) and a first-time participant in the SRHBA’s Parade of Homes, on now through Sept. 16.

The family-owned firm has entered the parade with a 1,366-square-foot modified bilevel located at 605 Casper Cove, near the Legends Golf course in Warman. The eye-catching “Greenview” model home brings together elements of farmhouse chic in one pleasing package.

Rich walnut accents add warmth to the open-concept great room, from the stylish mantel gracing the brick-faced natural-gas fireplace to the beautifully crafted walnut staircase railings.

The kitchen’s white Shaker-style cabinets are complemented by a handsome walnut butcher-block countertop and floating walnut shelves. The lengthy island is topped in white quartz. Other kitchen standouts include an apron-front farmhouse-style sink and a large closet pantry.

Combining the living room, dining area and kitchen in one open space maximizes the home’s square footage. A soaring vaulted ceiling and large triple-glazed low-E windows add to the spacious feel of the great room.

Two children’s bedrooms and a four-piece bathroom are located on the main floor, while a large master suite occupies the bonus space over the attached double garage.

The master bedroom features an inviting ensuite with a quartztopped double vanity, shiplap wall detail and a custom tile shower with a unique rolling glass door.

Another rolling barn door opens to reveal a walk-in closet.

The home’s lower level is open for future development, with space for two more bedrooms and a large family room.

Although new to the SRHBA, Neu Homes has a significant history of land development and residential construction.

“We’re 10 years old,” says Kelly Neudorf, who owns the company with his wife, Helen. Sons Mark and Dean are also integral to Neu Homes’ operations.

“Mark and Helen do a lot of the design work. Mark is also a real estate agent and represents our company. Dean is our framer and shingler,” says Kelly.

The Neudorfs got their start with a land-development project in Neuanlage, located 40 kilometres north of Saskatoon.

“That opened doors for us in the construction industry. The next obvious step was getting into the building part of it, not just land development. The project there went really well. Over a period of five to six years, we were able to sell all the lots there and do quite a bit of building.

“Around 2010, things opened up in Warman, and we started building here,” says Kelly.

“We now build about five or six homes a year.”

Neu Homes designs and constructs the majority of its homes to appeal to young families, which, by no coincidence, is the demographic driving home sales in the rapidly expanding city of Warman, says Mark.

In recent years, the Neudorfs have seen their custom-home business expand, leading to the decision to join this year’s SRHBA Parade of Homes.

“A lot of the recent homes that we’ve been doing have been custom builds,” says Mark.

“Having a show home gives us the ability to show potential buyers what we can do for them.”

Certified Professional Home Builders constructed all 30 homes featured in this year’s Parade of Homes. Builders are required to complete an extensive series of training modules, based on national benchmarks, to attain this certification.

“We wanted to step up and do everything we can to show that we’re serious about what we do and that we do it well,” says Kelly of the company’s decision to join the SRHBA.

“Being involved in the SRHBA and completing those training modules, your thinking is impacted. It’s more about others and not just about you.

“That’s something that was really driven home to me.”

All show homes in the SRHBA Parade of Homes are open for viewing Monday through Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.; and from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
