Hall named U Sports defensive player of week

-

A 90-yard interception return for a touchdown by Payton Hall helped the University of Saskatchewan Huskies to a 48-46 victory over the hometown University of Manitoba Bisons last week. Now, it’s helping him to rake in the accolades.

Hall, a fourth-year defensive back with the Huskies, was named the Canada West football defensive player of the month earlier in the week, earning him an automatic nomination for the national title.

On Wednesday, Hall was announced as the U Sports football defensive player of the week, beating out three other defensive players from across the different Canadian conferences.

SASKATOON BLADES TRADE LOGAN DOUST FOR DRAFT PICKS

The Saskatoon Blades picked up a ninth-round pick and a conditional fifth-round pick in the 2019 WHL Bantam draft from the Victoria Royals in exchange for 2001born forward Logan Doust, it was announced on Wednesday.

Doust, a native of North Vancouver, was originally drafted by Saskatoon in the ninth round of the 2016 draft, and spent the majority of last season with the Vancouver North West Giants of the British Columbia Major Midget League where he recorded 16 points in 20 games.

With the move, the Blades are now down to a pre-season roster of 28 players, including 16 forwards, nine defencemen and three goalies.
