Winnipeg child psychologist arrested on child porn charge

-

A Winnipeg child psychologist WINNIPEG has been arrested on a child pornography charge.

Winnipeg police say the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in the United States got a tip about child sexual abuse images being stored on an online storage service.

The American organization shared the information with the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre in Ottawa, which contacted Winnipeg police.

Winnipeg police say a suspect was taken into custody on Wednesday and investigators found child sexual abuse images on an electronic device in a home.

Gary Anthony Shady, who is 72, has been charged with possession of child pornography.

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority says Shady is an employee with patients at Health Sciences Centre and the Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre and is on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation.

“We are not currently aware of any allegations involving patients under his care,” the health authority said Thursday in a statement.

“Staff ... will be reaching out to Dr. Shady’s current patients and their families in the coming days to provide support and information on plans to transition their care to other clinicians.”

Police said Shady was being held in custody.
