Nutrien helps make province better
I work for Nutrien. I live in Saskatchewan. And I am embarrassed by John Gormley’s “call to action” (SP, Oct. 12). His words diminish the contributions and future of the more than 4,000 Nutrien employees throughout the province. His words threaten what has helped our province shine: a willingness to embrace change and look forward, not one that desperately clings to the past.
Gormley fails to recognize that the average job seeker is not searching classifieds for CEO or CFO positions — they are looking for the opportunities Nutrien is offering. A company that pays well, offers growth and is a strong community member.
When I walk the halls in our office, yes, things are different. The people who have departed since the merger were my friends and colleagues. But I also see an office that is fuller than ever. I see new faces. I see youth from other companies that were forced to downsize. But Gormley wants to see a ‘call to action’?
How is a 30 per cent increase in head count not better for our city? How is a company that has a larger global stage not a better learning platform for our youth? How is a company with the ability to protect our potash resources not better for our citizens?
I know this is one opinion, of many. But I can’t sit idle when I hear people devalue the contributions of ‘others’ or threaten the very fabric of our great province.
