Blades win home-and-home against Pats
The Saskatoon Blades came out on top over the weekend, going 2-0 against the Regina Pats in WHL action.
In front of a hometown crowd on Friday night, six different Blades players scored en route to posting a 6-2 victory against Regina.
Max Gerlach and Ryan Hughes each scored in the first period, while Kirby Dach was the lone scorer in the second period, and Riley Mckay, Chase Wouters and Cyle Mcnabb each added one in the third.
Saturday night saw the Blades (28-13-6-0) double the score of the host Pats (12-33-1-1), winning 4-2. Mcnabb and Eric Florchuk each scored twice for Saskatoon.
STRONG START
FOR KLEITER AT CANADIAN JUNIOR CURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Representing Saskatchewan, Saskatoon’s Rylan Kleiter got off to 3-0 start at the men’s Canadian junior curling championship in Prince Albert.
In their opening draw on Saturday afternoon, the team defeated Nunavut 12-3 and followed that up with an 8-2 victory over Ontario in the evening.
On Sunday, the Kleiter rink faced their first tough test as they narrowly defeated Alberta 7-6. Saskatchewan led 6-4 after nine ends, but Alberta scored two in the tenth to tie the game and force an extra end. Kleiter scored a single in the extra frame to win the game.
Saskatchewan also played British Columbia on Sunday evening, however, scores were not available at press time.
On the women’s side, the Saskatchewan team, represented by Regina’s Sara England is 1-1, while the host team from Moose Jaw, represented by Skylar Ackerman, is 0-2.
SASKATOON’S JASON JACOBSON QUALIFIES FOR MEN’S PROVINCIAL TANKARD
Saskatoon’s Jason Jacobson has claimed one of the final berths in the Provincial Tankard after winning the B Event at the northern qualifiers hosted by the Nutana curling club over the weekend.
Jacobson defeated Twin Rivers’ Lloyd Fell in the B-event final 9-3, scoring three points in the first end and then adding another six in the third end.
The B-event victory was Jacobson’s second chance at securing a Tankard berth at the weekend’s competition as he lost the A-event final 10-7 to Kerrobert’s Brock Virtue, who will also be moving on to the Tankard.
In the competition’s C-event final, Fell took on Yorkton’s Aron Hershmiller to earn the final berth at the Tankard. Scores for that game were not available at press time.
