Three arrested after armed home invasion ends in chase

-

Three men have been arrested and face multiple charges after police were called to an armed home invasion.

Officers were called for reports of a home invasion in the 1100 block of Osler Street at around 7:20 p.m. Saturday, police said. While responding, they learned that the suspects had fled the area in a car.

An officer at the scene, seeing a car leaving, suspected it was involved in the incident and began to follow it before attempting a traffic stop in the City Park neighbourhood.

During the traffic stop, the driver of the car got out and surrendered to police.

While that was happening, police said, one of the two passengers in the car moved into the driver’s seat and drove off — hitting an occupied vehicle near Queen Street and Second Avenue.

The car, southbound on First Avenue, allegedly continued to evade police before turning west onto 20th Street. It continued until it failed to make the turn at Avenue C and 20th, and collided with the curb and a post.

When the two suspects allegedly resisted arrest, police used a Taser on the driver and pepper spray on the passenger.

Both men were then taken into custody.

When searching the vehicle, police uncovered numerous weapons inside, including a machete, a large hunting knife, a can of pepper spray, brass knuckles and firearm ammunition. Police say two of the suspects are known to police and are believed to have a local gang affiliation.
