Now in its 39th year, HomeStyles, presented by the Saskatoon & Region Home Builders’ Association (SRHBA), showcases the latest trends in home building, design and renovation.

HomeStyles returns March 21-24 to the World Trade Centre Saskatoon at Prairieland Park, with more than 300 different exhibitors.

Jennifer Lamontagne, SRHBA director of business development, says the show’s main objective is to educate consumers about the importance of choosing a certified professional home builder or renovator for home construction and renovation projects.

“We receive a lot of calls from people who want to buy or renovate a home. There’s so much information out there, they have no idea where to start,” says Lamontagne. “HomeStyles allows you to meet professional contractors, face-to-face, without obligation, all under one roof.”

All home builders at HomeStyles 2019 belong to the SRHBA. They are certified professional home builders, backed by a third party new home warranty program — a protection that is not mandatory in Saskatchewan. Lamontagne says that the education, training and certification process SRHBA members complete leads to increased consumer confidence.

At HomeStyles, SRHBA members will also share their expertise on the Saskatoon StarPhoenix MainStage. Local experts will speak on topics including kitchen and bathroom design trends, planning a successful renovation, mortgage advice, zero-energy construction and smart home tips.

In recent years, HomeStyles has become more of a “lifestyle” show, featuring displays of products, services and activities that make life at home more enjoyable for every member of the family.

The Outdoor Living Hall is new to HomeStyles this year. Designed as a series of miniature back yards, the displays offer fresh takes on landscaping, patio and deck design, outdoor furnishings and more.

The Kitchen Stage is another lifestyle element that’s been incorporated into HomeStyles. Live cooking demonstrations, chef competitions and tastings will whet the appetite. Friday and Saturday evenings will include tastings and presentations by Co-op Wine Spirits Beer and the House of Q BBQ Sauce & Spice. On Sunday, the chefs of The Local Kitchen will present family-friendly cooking demonstrations.

HomeStyles 2019 is more family-friendly than ever, says Lamontagne. The SRHBA is expanding free admission to young people, ages 17 and under, accompanied by a parent. In previous years, children ages 12 and under were admitted free.

“Children have a big influence on the way we enjoy our homes. We want to make it easier for entire families to visit the show,” she says.

Kids will delight in the new hands-on activities offered at HomeStyles, including a visit to the new Remai Art Caravan, located in Hall B.

Sunday has been designated “Family Day” at HomeStyles, with special performances by magician Danny Kazam on the StarPhoenix Mainstage.

Raising a Little, a local company specializing in baby gear, will offer a stroller check at the show on Sunday.

“You can park your stroller and walk around with one of their handy baby carriers,” says Lamontagne.

HomeStyles embraces the Maker Movement with the addition of a new “Workshop Stage” located in Hall B. It’s an opportunity to make and take home a craft. Participants have to register for the different workshops in advance, at homestylesonline.com. The fee charged covers the cost of the craft materials, but also includes free admission to HomeStyles.

Back by popular demand is The Market, a boutique shopping experience offering a variety of artisan products, specialty food items and unique decor pieces.

The Saskatchewan Craft Council and Remai Modern will highlight works by local artisans in unique vignettes. Discover creative ways to incorporate art into your home decor.

There’s so much to see, do and experience at HomeStyles this year, the SRHBA has introduced a new four-day pass, for just $20.

“The four-day passes are only available online and in advance, until Sunday, March 17,” says Lamontagne. A single day’s admission purchased online is $12. Admission at the door is $12.50 (cash only).

To make the most of your HomeStyles experience, plan in advance, adds Lamontagne.

“Go to our website, homestylesonline.com, and check out the schedules detailing our local experts’ presentations, Kitchen Stage demos and craft workshops. Plan ahead and make a schedule, and be sure to sign up for the workshops in advance. As well, follow us on Facebook and Instagram for show updates.”

HomeStyles hours are March 21 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; March 22 from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.; March 23 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and March 24 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

HomeStyles allows you to meet professional contractors, face-to-face, without obligation, all under one roof.
