Kenneth Philip Ryland passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the age of 91. Ken was born on August 26, 1928 on a farm in Plato, Saskatchew­an. Ken returned to Plato often over the years to help with the fall harvest, one of his favourite activities. He spent several years working for Canadian National Railway (CN) in Saskatoon. In his years after retiring from CN, Ken devoted his time volunteeri­ng at St. Paul’s Hospital 2-3 days a week. Volunteeri­ng was a great passion of his, spending 17 years in the Test Center helping patrons find their way around the hospital. Ken was a dedicated craftsman, building many pieces of furniture over the years. His proudest achievemen­t was the cabin he built at Dore Lake, Saskatchew­anwhich his family continues to enjoy to this day. In his downtime, Ken enjoyed bird watching and following baseball, football and hockey. He could always be found watching the Twin’s in the summer and the Bruin’s and the Packers in the winter. Ken had the largest sweet tooth, and would never turn down a home-made treat, especially cookies. He was happiest at the casino where he was known to win a round or two with the Lucky Seven slots. Ken is lovingly remembered by his children, Bette-lynn Ryland, Lori-anne (Dave) Tkachuk, both of Saskatoon, and Donald (Andrea) Ryland of Deep River, Ontario. He will be dearly missed by his grandchild­ren, Larissa (Darryl) Tkachuk and Josef Tkachuk of Saskatoon, Michael Ryland and Meghan Ryland of Ottawa, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was predecease­d by his wife, Isabel Ryland (née Murphy), his parents, Ernest and Ada Ryland, as well as his four brothers and four sisters. There will be no visitation. An interment service will be conducted at a later date.
