It is with great sadness the family announces that the death of Rudolf Edward Daniels occurred at his residence in Saskatoon on October 12, 2019. Rudy will be missed by his wife Edith, children Tim (Lori), Kathy (Perry), Patty (Todd) and Caroline (David). Rudy was adored by his grandchildren Stephen (Jenny), Phillip, Callan, Jadyn, Sophia, Emily, Isaac, Augusta, and Charlotte. Rudy and Edith’s great love affair began in 1956. They were married three years later and in Rudy’s words, ‘have been madly in love ever since’. Rudy spent most of his life on the Daniels farm near Clavet. Rudy loved his land and spent thousands of hours wandering around on it. He knew every corner. Although Rudy was a farmer by trade he never backed down from a new challenge. In 1980 he attended the University of Saskatchewan receiving a Bachelor of Theology in 1983 and became an ordained minister in 1984 serving at Pleasant Point Mennonite Church for decades. He loved both his church community and the community of Clavet. He believed in giving back and served on the Clavet Local School Board, was a Scout Leader, a crisis counsellor and was the ‘go to’ guy for all those around him. He was a painter, hunter, fisher, farmer, preacher, gardener, naturalist, singer, writer, and storyteller. He loved to eat good food and drink red wine. He was a wicked cribbage player who won with enthusiasm and lost with equal enthusiasm. He and Edith were renowned for their open loving farm home with a dinner table that held great conversation and delicious food. Everyone was welcome. Rudy had a hard time letting go of life. He loved living and even at the end was still planning one last party. He didn’t want to miss out on anything – and that’s the energy we will all miss. Rudy relied on many to help him near the end of his life. The family gives a heartfelt thanks to Mary Ann De Leon, the staff at Stonebridge Crossing, Seniors First Palliative Care team, Overc Health staff and all Rudy’s friends who took time to visit. Rudy’s Life Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on November 10, 2019 at Agar’s Corner (Highway 16 & Floral Rd). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ducks Unlimited in Rudy’s name (www.ducks.ca). Condolences may be left for the family at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home 306-244-5577.
