MURIAS, Dorothy

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dorothy Murias, of Saskatoon, SK, on October 22, 2019, at the age of 87. Dorothy passed away peacefully at RUH, with her daughters by her side. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Brent Hesje, her daughter, Melinda Wingerak, her grandchildren, Katherine and Stephan Fortier, Jonathan and Maya Hesje, and Madison Wingerak, plus many extended relatives. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Sarah Lane, brothers, Gordon, Brian, and Alan Lane, husband, Frank Murias, and a stillborn daughter. Dorothy was born in Shotton Colliery, County Durham, England, on April 25, 1932. She immigrated to Canada the summer of 1959, to teach in Archerwill, Saskatchewan. It was there she met the love of her life, Frank, and they married August 5, 1961. Dorothy had the biggest heart. She was a respected teacher for over 30 years who educated hundreds of students and was a pillar in her community. She gave countless hours of her time to causes and organizations that she loved. She was involved with C.G.I.T., the United Church, Town Council, STF, and many more boards and committees. Perhaps her most passionate project was the annual Christmas Concert Variety Show which she led and directed. After Frank’s passing in 1991, Dorothy relocated to Saskatoon, SK, where she became very involved with the Western Development Museum, the English Welsh Society, and Mcclure United Church. She spent her last years living in St. Volodymyr Villa where she loved the staff, community, and felt so at home. She shared her time and talents leading Story Time and helping in the library. She was an adventurous, feisty, independent, dignified woman. Her stories will live on through family and friends. Dorothy made a huge impact on so many lives and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the people who provided care and overwhelming support, including the staff at RUH, the staff at City Hospital Convalescent Care Unit, the staff and community of St. Volodymyr, and numerous family and friends. A Celebration of Dorothy’s Life will take place on Friday, November 8, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at Mcclure United Church, 4025 Taylor St. E, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 5N7.
