Huskies women’s basketball team remain No. 1 in nation

The University of Saskatchew­an women’s basketball team has once again been ranked the No. 1 team in this week’s U Sports top-10 poll.

With a 4-0 record, the Huskies received 575 points and 47 firstplace votes.

Saskatchew­an’s men’s basketball team, which is also undefeated at 4-0, jumped one spot from sixth to fifth with 270 points.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will host their provincial rivals, the University of Regina Cougars, this coming Friday and Saturday.

In men’s hockey rankings, Saskatchew­an (7-3-2) won both of their games last weekend, but remained in the No. 5 spot in this week’s poll.

The men’s and women’s hockey teams will have a home-and-home series against the Cougars this weekend, with the men visiting Regina on Friday and the women hosting, while Saturday will see the women on the road and the men hosting.

Rankings for wrestling debuted in this week’s top 10 and the Saskatchew­an women’s team nabbed the No. 2 spot with 37 points while the men’s team came in at No. 4 with 45 points.

The Saskatchew­an wrestling teams will host two events at the Education Gym this weekend, with the Alberta Dual on Friday night and the Huskie Invitation­al starting Saturday morning.

SASK. SKATERS HEADED TO TEAM CANADA WEST CAMP

Five forwards with Saskatchew­an ties have been invited to attend the Team Canada West selection camp Dec. 1-3 in Calgary to compete for a spot on the team’s World Junior A Challenge roster.

Making the trip will be Saskatoon’s Karter Mcnarland, Prince Albert’s Stanley Cooley, Regina’s Owen Ozar and Lukas Sillinger, as well as Calgary’s Nic Porterfiel­d, who plays with the Saskatchew­an Junior Hockey League’s Melville Millionair­es.

Canada West will have a pre-tournament game on Dec. 5 against Russia before opening the actual tournament against the United States on Dec 7.

The World Junior A Challenge, taking place in Dawson Creek, B.C., will conclude with the final on Dec. 15.
