GMC adds off-road AT4 trim to Canyon
It’s generally understood when one brother gets a cool toy, the other isn’t far behind in asking for one too. Believe it or not, the same goes for car companies.
When big-brother Sierra found success with the off-road-focused AT4 trim, it didn’t take long for the mid-sized Canyon to start clamouring for one of its own. So for 2021, the Canyon pickup will be offered in AT4 guise, bringing the off-road goods to a customer base that doesn’t mind splashing out fullsized bucks for mid-sized trucks.
The At4-laden Canyon pickups will be recognizable thanks to a unique grille and red recovery hooks. They’ll also have 31-inch Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires wrapped around 17-inch wheels.
Underneath, GMC has fitted an off-road tuned suspension and a rear automatic locking differential. There’s a skid plate over the transfer case as well.
The Denali trim — familiar to Canyon shoppers — will be updated for 2021. Its grille is slightly different, and stylists at GMC added assist steps, bright accents and a set of 20-inch aluminum wheels, exclusive to the Denali trim.
Denali interiors will be infused with open-pore ash wood, aluminum decor and unique stitching. A new Cocoa/dark Atmosphere colour theme is available, covering the standard-equipment heated and ventilated front seats. Powertrain options haven’t changed, and the 2021 Canyon will be available later this year, with pricing announced closer to production.
