Saskatoon Police have charged a 29-year-old man with second-degree murder in the death of Allison Moosehunter (Witchekan), 28.

The man, who police say was known to Moosehunter (Witchekan), has also been charged with offering an indignity to human remains. He is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.

Moosehunter (Witchekan) was found dead inside her home on March 4 by officers responding to a call. An autopsy confirmed her death was the result of a homicide, police said in a media release on Friday.

Her sister, Tiffany Witchekan, told The Starphoenix her sister had not shown up for work at the Fire Creek Gas and Grill on the morning she was found dead, and in the nine years she worked there, it was out of character.

“She was so perfect. I don’t understand why someone could take my sister away from us. She would never hurt a fly,” Tiffany wrote in a Facebook message.

Police later issued a media release seeking the public’s assistance to locate Ivan “Roberto” Martell, 29. At the time, police said investigators believe Martell is known to the victim and may be able to provide valuable information to the investigation.

In the most recent media release issued on Friday, police said they are no longer looking for assistance in locating the 29-year old man mentioned in the previous release.

Police did not release the name of the 29-year-old man charged in the death of Moosehunter (Witchekan).

Her death is the third homicide recorded in Saskatoon in 2020.
