December 28, 1934 - March 17, 2020

After a fulfilling life and career, Josef closed his tired eyes forever. People who were blessed to know him, know what we as a family have lost. We will hold onto his memory of how he was with us, in the most beautiful hours of all of our lives. Josef is lovingly remembered by his wife Liesel, daughter Simone (Bob), son Chris (Louise), grandchildren Katarina (Davin), Chelsey (Nico), Beth, and Evan, and great-granddaughter Kamryn. Josef held a Masters degree in Mining Engineering from Germany’s Clausthal-zellerfeld University. He had extensive experience in mining and played a significant role in the development of Cameco’s Uranium and Gold properties. In 1993, he was appointed Vice-president of Uranium Mining and in 1995 was appointed Vice-president of Mining. In May 1996, Josef assumed the position of Executive Vice-president with Kyrgyzstan’s Kumptor Operating Company, and managed the successful transition of the project from development to production. After his return to Canada in April 1997, he was appointed Senior Vice President of Operations, and Chief Operating Officer. At the end of 1999, Josef retired from all of his positions. Upon retirement Josef continued to be a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather as he enjoyed and cherished time with his family. As we celebrate Josef’s life, and reckon with the loss; though the finality hurts, death came as redemption for him. Due to the severe restrictions upon us, a celebration of his life will be open to his immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Arrangements entrusted to Lisa Bos.
