DIEDERICHS, Donald Henry

1949 - 2020

-

Don Diederichs passed away peacefully on May 4, at the age of 71. Predeceased only five short months ago by his wife of 47 years, Cheryl, and by his parents, Art and Agnes Diederichs. Don will be lovingly remembered by his children: Darcie (Mark) Lich, Kelly (Matthew) Skuba, and Kim Diederichs; and seven grandchildren: Scott, Shannon, Monica, Jacob, Zachary, Rylee, and Robyn. He is also survived by his siblings: Marilyn (Bob) Brunen, Carol (Mel) Smith, Merle (Ramona) Diederichs, Sherry (Blair) Maher, and Darren (Donalee) Diederichs and their families; Cheryl’s sisters: Michelle (Les) Sadler and Tammy Bézaire (Lyle Friesen); his ’bonus children’ Connie (Paul) Davis, Tanya (Dan) Hudson, and Angela Neufeld; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Don was a printer by trade (he actually printed Wayne Gretzky’s rookie card) but he was a farmer at heart, a storyteller, and an intuitive mechanic. If Papa couldn’t fix it, we knew it was well and truly broken. Don and Cheryl raised their family in Saskatoon, but spent every possible moment at their cabin at Whiteswan Lake. After retiring, they moved to the lake, and were deeply connected to the community there. Don and Cheryl’s beloved ’lake people’ are an extension of our family and we are grateful for their love and friendship over the last forty years. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Tom Gabruch and to the outstanding nursing staff at St. Paul’s Hospital. A memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s memory may be made to the St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation ’Close to Home’ campaign.
