NO KIDDING AROUND

Ophelia Dutchak may be just six but like a lot of children in Saskatchew­an these days, she knows a few things about the pandemic and how it’s affecting her young life.

Q What do you know about COVID-19?

Ophelia Dutchak, 6: “The virus that spreads around the world so we have to stay in our houses. And we can’t see anybody because they might have germs and we don’t want to get them.” Q How do you keep the virus from spreading?

Elliott Ferwerda, 5: “What about put some water on it? And then wash it away.”

Theodore Hounjet, 6: “Stay home and cough

into your elbow.”

Ava Kalnicki, 4: “Grocery shop and bring them home right when you get home you wash them before you put them in your fridge.”

Samuel Ward, 3: “You need to stay back.” Q How long will the virus be around?

Theodore Hounjet, 6: “The whole year.” Rylan Hounjet, 5: “Eight hundred days. Actually, no. A trillion days.”

Garry Ward, 4: “Not too long, but it’ll be so long.” Q How is Mom and Dad’s cooking?

Rylan Hounjet: “Amazing!” (Mom, offscreen: “Amazing? That’s right.”) “But daddy’s is more amazing.” Q What do you miss the most?

Ophelia Dutchak: “It’s summertime and there’s a park right by our house but we can’t go there.”

Liam Mitchell, 4: “Going to a birthday party and seeing their house and getting cake from them.” Q When the virus is gone, what do you want to do?

Ava Kalnicki: “I want to see Nana.”

Theodore Hounjet: “Go to school. Go to store. Mcdonald’s. Montana’s. Dollarama. Movie theatre. Shoppers Drug Mart. Grocery store. Burger King. KFC.”

Liam Mitchell: “I want to go to people’s houses to say ‘I love you.’ ” Q If you could tell the virus one thing, what would it be?

Elliott Ferwerda: “I would say, ‘Go away,

virus.’ ” Q How much screen time do you get?

Theodore Hounjet: “I don’t play video games during the week ... but mommy does.”
