REGINA A resident from the north has died from COVID -19, bringing the province’s total deaths to 11.

The province issued two separate releases on Sunday. First, public health officials advised anyone who visited the North Battleford Walmart on May 21 between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to immediately self-isolate if they have COVID -19 symptoms.

Indigenous Services Canada (First Nations Inuit Health Branch) and the Saskatchewan Health Authority are advising that an individual who tested COVID-19 positive visited the North Battleford Walmart that day when they were likely infectious.

All other customers who were at Walmart during this time period should self-monitor daily for symptoms of COVID-19 until

June 5.

In its second news release, the province reported a resident from the north had died due to COVID-19. As well, one new case in Regina was reported, bringing the weekend total to five new cases. The province’s total COVID -19 cases is 646.

Three of the five new cases are in the far north and two are in Regina. A total of 582 people have recovered now, leaving 53 active cases. This is the lowest number of active cases the province has had since March 22, according to the government release sent on Sunday.

Four people are currently in hospital, with two receiving in-patient care in Regina and one in Saskatoon, and one in intensive care in Saskatoon.

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Lloydminster Hospital has also been declared over by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA).

Dr. Mandiangu Nsungu, the SHA’S medical health officer for the region, made the declaration on Saturday morning. This came after 28 days since the detection of “the last case that had the potential to contribute to transmission” in the facility, according to an update posted on the SHA’S website.

At least 13 cases were a result of the outbreak, including five health care staff and eight patients.

Visitor restrictions remain in effect at the hospital as in all other health facilities across the province.

Of the province’s 646 cases, 142 are travellers, 381 are community contacts including mass gatherings, 76 have no known exposures and 47 are under investigation by local public health.

Overall in Saskatchewan: 50 cases are health-care workers, although the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances; 256 of the cases are from the far north; 169 are from the Saskatoon area; 112 from the north; 80 from the Regina area; 17 from the south and 12 from the central region; 95 cases involve people 19 years of age and under, while the remainder are adults; 230 cases are in the 20-39 age range; 197 are in the 40-59 age range; 106 are in the 60-79 age range; and 18 are in the 80-plus range; 52 per cent of the cases are females and 48 per cent are males.
