FIVE THINGS TO EXPLORE

As things reopen, more people are braving the outside world. Erin Petrow offers a few ideas for this weekend, along with online options.

1. Scavenger hunt

The Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana will host a social distanced scavenger hunt on Saturday. The family-friendly event costs $20, which you can e-transfer after registering online at rotarynutana.org. Then all you have to do is head out into the city, follow the clues, and earn a chance to win a Traeger Tailgater barbecue.

2. Indigenous Peoples Day

A variety of organizations will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on Sunday with fun and educational livestreams on Facebook. Head to Wanuskewin’s page from 3-5 p.m. to learn more about the park’s 6,000-year history, or enjoy an online concert hosted by the Métis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan starting at 6 p.m.

3. Close encounters

If you’re looking for a possible out-of-this-world experience, Saskatoon UFO Close Encounters will host a “contact event” to mark the summer solstice at the Devic Centre ( just south of Vanscoy) on Saturday from 10:3011:30 p.m., weather permitting.

4. Street Stall Saturday

It’s the first weekend of Street Stall Saturdays downtown near the former farmers’ market site. Offering a variety of local vendors selling everything from jewelry to fresh produce, the event is sure to have something for everyone. Keep in mind that special COVID-19 safety measures will be in effect.

5. Time to relax

If you simply need some time to relax, join the Saskatoon Buddha Meditation Centre for an online meditation class from 5-6 p.m. on Sunday. Check the centre’s Facebook page for information on how to join this week’s Zoom class, then let all that stress just melt away.
