Fourteenth COVID-19 death reported in province along with 10 new cases

Latest fatality occurred in far north: officials

A 14th person in Saskatchew­an has died from complicati­ons with COVID-19, the province said Thursday.

The person, in their 70s, was the seventh from the far north region to die from the novel coronaviru­s.

The province is also reporting 10 new cases — four from Wednesday and six from Thursday, bringing Saskatchew­an’s total number of cases to 795.

Of those cases, 80 are considered active. A total of 701 people have recovered.

Seven of the new cases are in the far north, two are in the north and one is in the Saskatoon area.

Six people are currently in hospital, three of them in intensive care — two in the north and one in Saskatoon.

On Tuesday, the province announced dates for the reopening of all remaining businesses. On Monday, indoor pools, rinks, recreation­al facilities and performing arts centres can reopen, and restaurant­s can expand beyond 50-per-cent capacity, so long as two-metre distancing can be maintained.

On July 9, casinos and bingo halls can reopen, with racetracks and rodeos resuming on July 16. Restaurant­s and bars will also be allowed to host live entertainm­ent and music on July 16.

Of the province’s 795 cases, 165 are travellers, 478 are community contacts including mass gatherings, 109 have no known exposures and 43 are under investigat­ion by local public health.

OVERALL IN SASK.

To date, 55 cases are health-care workers, although the source of the infections may not be related to health care in all instances. Other COVID -19 numbers across the province include:

334 cases from the far north; 187 from the Saskatoon area; 118 from the north;

80 from the Regina area; 64 from the south and 12 from the central region.

There are 116 cases involving people 19 years of age and under while the remainder are adults:

278 cases are in the 20-39 age range;

249 are in the 40-59 age range; 131 are in the 60-79 age range; 21 are in the 80-plus range. Some 51 per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males. As of Thursday, 67,243 tests have been performed in the province.
