1. Roxy Theatre Reopening

The last time people could go see a movie was a long time ago, but it’s now possible as long as they sit far, far away from each other.

The Roxy Theatre is celebrating its reopening Saturday with a 40th anniversary screening of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

The theatre will be at 30 per cent capacity and is showing an all-ages matinee at 2 p.m. and a 19+ evening screening at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and children.

2. SSO Book and Music Sale goes online

The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra’s (SSO) big summer sale has been going for over 30 years and shows no signs of stopping, even amid a pandemic.

The sale runs every Saturday and Sunday in July and August, but also introduced an online sale this week accessible through the SSO’S website.

It runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 602B 51st Street E and features a rotating stock of books, CDS, records and more.

Shoppers are asked to wear a mask and tap to pay. Only 10 people will be allowed in the space at once.

3. Supporting local businesses making sweet music together

The Capitol Club and Homestead Ice Cream have teamed up to launch Capitol Ice Cream and Shakes this Saturday.

The Capitol will be serving 10 flavours of ice cream and boozy milkshakes (as well as a nonboozy option for the kids) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

4. Yoga in the park

People have shown a lot of flexibility in adapting to the pandemic, but that takes on a new meaning with summer yoga classes hosted by Ground Yoga kicking off Saturday.

The all-levels, by donation class runs from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Rotary park and is limited to 25 students. Participants are asked to use the online sign-up system on the Ground Yoga website.

5. Going for a socially distanced swim

Two outdoor pools have reopened with limitations in place. Riversdale Pool and George Ward Pool will have three two-hour sessions open each day with a limit of 85 people.

Time in the pool can be booked over the phone up to two days in advance, with a limited number of walk-in spots.

Both are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $7.85 for adults, $4.70 for youth 6-18 and $15.70 for families. Children under six can swim for free.
