In the Estrie region, more than 137,000 daffodils will be sold by more than 1,000 volunteers, motivated by the desire to save lives, in some 95 outlets. In total, some two million fresh flowers will be sold by 10,000 Quebec volunteers in 1,500 points of sale in shopping malls, financial institutions, food markets, office buildings, pharmacies, and businesses. Last year, the sale of daffodils collected nearly $2 million. A gesture of solidarity Josée Boudreault, the spokesperson for Daffodil Month for a fourth year, says “As you know last summer, I was the victim of a stroke. This allowed me to realize how important the support of those we care about is, but also to what extent prevention and research are paramount. It is thanks to scientific advances that so many lives, such as mine, and thousands of people diagnosed with cancer, can be saved.”

The CCS therefore is inviting the public to make a simple gesture of solidarity:

• Buy fresh flowers from March 30 to April 2 ($3 for 5/ $10 for 10). To find the nearest point of sale, visit cancer.ca/jonquille.

• Obtain a daffodil pin at the CCS regional office located at 3330 King Street West in Sherbrooke.

• Contact the CCS Cancer Information Service at 1-888-939-3333 or visit cancer.ca to make a donation or to ask cancer-related questions.

The money collected by the CCS contributes:

- to the prevention of more cancers and demand laws that protect health; - to finance more research projects; - to support more people affected by cancer In Quebec: • Cancer is the leading cause of death. • This year, about 52,000 people will learn that they have cancer.

• With an aging and growing population, the number of new cases of cancer will increase by nearly 35 per cent by 2030.
