Featured Pets: Trixie and Courtney

-

We don’t often have small dogs up for adoption yet currently we have two who are each looking for the perfect new forever home. Trixie and Courtney did not come to the shelter together and while they do get along extremely well, they can be adopted separately.

Trixie has been with us for about three weeks and we’re surprised she hasn’t had more interest. Trixie is an adorable Chihuahua/teckel mix who came to us because she was not well suited to a home with young children. Because Trixie can be nippy if approached (she does not bite, just nips), it is best for all involved that she lives in a home with no young children. Trixie spends a lot of time in the cat room and does well with them although she will on occasion chase one away. Upon arrival, she was a little hesitant when meeting other dogs but once she is properly introduced she is fine and now gets along well with those she knows.

Trixie is 5 years old and weighs about 11 pounds. She is a fairly low energy girl and she isn’t overly keen on going out for her walks but once settled into a home with a new routine she’ll probably be more enthusiastic about her outings. She needs her exercise but if you are looking for a jogging or hiking partner, you have not found one in Trixie! Leisurely strolls through the park are more her speed.

Trixie can be a little aloof at first but once she gets to know you, she is super friendly, loves to cuddle. She’s the type of dog who we know will make you feel very, very loved every time you walk through the door.

Courtney is a new arrival but this is her second time as a shelter resident. Courtney is a sweet and loveable girl who unfortunately, must be re-homed due to a change in her current owner's living situation. While our motto is a dog is for life, in this case, because Courtney was often home alone for upwards of 10 hours a day, in the long run, she might be better off in a home where she has someone with her more of the time. 10 hours makes for a very long, lonely day. From what we can tell, she seems to be thriving with all the attention she is getting at the shelter. She loves playing with her new friend Trixie and is fine with the two large dogs she has met.

Courtney is a happy and friendly dog who is good with cats although she will sometimes chase a cat that is unfamiliar (for fun, not with any malice). She is approximately 6 and unlike Trixie, has lots of energy. She loves her walks and is very engaged and interactive.

If you think you can give one (or both) of these little cuties a loving home; a home where they can spend lots of great years being the centre of your world, we'd love to hear from you. To inquire, please send an email to frontieranimalsociety@gmail.com or better yet give our adoption coordinator Brenda a call at 819.876.7747 any day of the week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
