Memphremagog Conservation Inc. (MCI) plants an oak tree in Potton to mark its 50 years of existence!

-

Yesterday, MCI gave a gift of a red oak to the municipality of Potton Township, at the Missisquoi North park in Mansonville. This symbolic gesture was made to honour MCI’S founders, underline the 50 years of its existence, and kick off MCI’S seasonal activities.

The mayor of Potton, Mr. Louis Veillon, and two of his colleagues, Mrs. Trish Wood, community organizer, and Mrs Alexandra Leclerc, in charge of health and safety, were present for the planting, which was done by Mr. Robert Benoit, president of MCI, Mr. Jean-claude Duff, chairman of MCI’S Board of Directors, and Mrs. Gisèle Lacasse Benoit, MCI board member.

Activities planned by MCI for the 2017 season Many activities will be undertaken by MCI this summer, highlighted by the Healthy Fitch Bay project, with a number of concrete actions aimed at improving the health of Fitch Bay. MCI will also be continuing its support for private property owners who wish to protect their natural landscapes. Between 2009 and 2016, MCI has helped preserve more than 770 hectares in the Lake Memphremagog watershed. As well, the MCI lake patrol will be continuing its awareness campaign with the public, patrolling the lake and carrying out water sampling programs. The patrol can be contacted 7 days a week at 819-620-3939 or by email at patrol@memphremagog.org.

MCI is currently collecting funds for the conservation of natural landscapes in the watershed and for the

Healthy Fitch Bay project, the area of the lake whose water quality is of most concern. To learn more
