Late Team East addition and Bishop’s University kicker Vince Dubé scored all 13 points for Team East to earn the East’s player of the game honours. Dubé had five punts for 225-yards, made 4-of-4 field goals, longest of 36-yards, and added one rouge as Team West led by 2016 Hec Creighton winner Noah Picton from the University of Regina took the U Sports All-star game by a score of 37-13 at Telus Stadium in Quebec City on the campus of Université de Laval.

The West’s Player of the game, Picton, was 15-of-20 passing for 228-yards and two touchdowns through the air and had two rushes for five yards and a touchdown on the ground.

Gaiters defensive lineman Mathieu Breton had a good showing with 3 total tackles, one solo and two assisted.

Offensive lineman Matthew Ouellett De Carlo showed great versatility playing at both the offensive tackle and guard throughout the game helping team East to 111-yards net rushing.

On the offensive side of the ball for Team East, Gaiters receiver Michael Nelson had three catches for 28-yards and receiver Deshaun Smellie had one catch for five yards.

Université de Sherbrooke defensive lineman Remy Deschamps had the lone sack for Team East resulting in a fiveyard loss.

After conceding a safety to go down 20 to start the game, Dubé gave the East squad the lead with a 36-yard field goal at 14:47 of the second quarter. A few minutes later at 11:36 Dubé’s long punt ended up bouncing into the end zone for a rouge to make the game 4-2 in favour of the East.

After the West scored the first touchdown of the game on a 15-yard pass from to Will Watson from Kyle Siemens and a rouge from Gabriel Ferraro to make it 104, Dubé hit a 17-yard field goal to cap off a six play 65-yard drive to cut the West’s lead to 10-7 at 5:04.

After two quarters the score was 20-7 in favour of the Western All-stars thanks to a 34-yard field goal from Ferraro and a 2-yard touchdown run from Picton with two seconds remaining to close out the first half.

Dubé added two more field goals for the East in the second half to eventually make the score 23-13 with 10:40 remaining in the fourth quarter but the West responded with a long drive for Picton’s first passing touchdown to make it 30-13 and followed that up getting a crucial interception as the East were gaining momentum and later after trading punts used the opportunity to cement their victory with another passing touchdown from Picton with 1:15 left in the game putting a comeback way out of reach.

This is the second year in a row that a Gaiter has taken the game’s player of the game honour for Team East. In 2016, it was linebacker Etienne Morin who was deemed the player of the game at Mcgill University. Dubé and his teammates will have a long summer to prepare before Bishop’s hits the field for training camp in August ahead of their first season in the AUS conference.
