May 9 – Members gathered at the Lennoxville United Church hall for an afternoon of Military Whist. Five tables of Whist and one table of Bridge were played, while Shirley Patton and Gwen Bayley enjoyed a game of Scrabble.

Games finished, we gathered around the supper tables for a cup of tea or coffee, and the usual chatter, while we waited for Billy and Emily to put the final touches on our meal.

In the absence of our President, Past-president Joan Cruickshank took today’s meeting. At Billy’s nod, Joan welcomed everyone, including our guest, Irene Young, and then asked the Blessing. The menu tonight was citrus herb chicken breasts, creamer potatoes, roasted red peppers and zucchini, baby carrots, coleslaw and rolls, followed by Queen Elizabeth cake, tea or coffee. A lovely meal, and we thank Billy and Emily ever so much. Winners of Military Whist were: 1st place with 31 flags: Captain Jack Kimpton, Caroline Marion, Doris Coates, and Kay Hartwell.

2nd place with 30 flags: Captain Greta Nish, Irene Young, Isabel Nelson, and Glenda Huff.

3rd place with 27 flags: Captain Louise Peasley, George Peasley, Stan Brown, and Keith Vintinner.

4th place with 24 flags: Captain Bev Suitor, Elsie Ramage, Caroline Rowe, and Ferne Lapointe.

5th place with 22 flags: Captain Joan Cruickshank, Alberta Crawford, Claudette Cyr, and Elsie Mills.

Door prizes went home with Doris Gordon, Yolande Liddle, Doris Coates, Elsie Mills, Eugene Naylor, and Gisele Lenzen.

Thanks to the many hands who made the kitchen clean up easy.

Our next meeting on May 23 will be the last one for this season. We will play 500 until 3:30 p.m., followed by our annual meeting. If you are interested in attending this meeting, please plan to be at the church hall prior to 3:30 p.m. A reminder to the executive and heads of committees to have your reports ready.
