My Take: By Matthew Mccully

-

Every year around this time I find a way to squeeze this little tidbit of information into the paper. Heroes wear helmets. Remembering my childhood, I can say with certainty that the ‘do as I say, not as I do’ argument never worked on me.

I have already driven past a handful of young families this year with two or three children, all wearing helmets, headed up by parents who are just too cool for school, as though they didn’t have anything in their skulls worth protecting.

It is hard to get used to. It will mess up your hair. And it will save your life.

It is an undeniable truth that young people are impressionable and adults are thick headed. But that’s figurative, not literal. Oh, and on a side note, you wouldn’t text while driving, so please don’t do it on your bike.
