Action Réfugiés Sutton offers refugee stories May 30
Action Réfugiés Sutton invites you to attend the conference Humanitarian Tales and Refugee Stories, at the Salle Alec et Gérard Pelletier in Sutton.
On the world’s front lines of conflict and extreme poverty, so much is happening that we care about and want to understand. Yet it is far from us and we do not have a “front row seat.” Or do we?
Two dedicated humanitarian aid workers recently decided to call the Eastern Townships their home base and not only are they involving themselves in local humanitarian work, as with Action Réfugiés Sutton in the Sutton region, they are also inviting the public to a bilingual presentation of their experiences in various countries around the world as humanitarian aid workers. Nicholas Gildersleeve has done international missions with Doctors of the World, Doctors without Borders and the Red Cross over a 12-year period. His last assignment was as Head of Mission in Bolivia. Nathalia Guerrero Vélez is a Colombian journalist who has lived in Canada since 2003. She has worked in the humanitarian field since 2005, with the Red Cross and with Doctors without Borders.
Nicholas and Nathalia have created a presentation giving examples of their work in the field and the situations that are playing out in various countries. They are offering us a rare glimpse into the world of refugee camps and field hospitals that few of us will ever experience first hand, but which we all feel profoundly affected by as we hear of the suffering of our fellow human beings in far away places. Nathalia and Nicholas are generously offering us their time to help us to understand our world a little bit better.
Join us on Tuesday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Salle Alec et Gérard Pelletier for a fascinating look into Humanitarian Tales and Refugee Stories.
