April fun with Richmond 50+

-

Twenty-three people came out to enjoy games of “500” on Monday, April 3. President Matty Banfill welcomed all and asked us to choose a “Volunteer of the Year” to represent our 50+ Club for the annual evening hosted by the municipalities. Bev Jones accepted this honour. Games got underway and at the conclusion of play, high score of 5060 points was earned by Jeannine Lancaster with Hughie Lancaster taking second place with 4460 points. Low score was achieved by Elizabeth Mastine.

April 10 found us having that pot luck luncheon that was planned for Valentine’s Day but snow got in the way. The tables were laden with delicious homecooked food which everyone enjoyed. There was a drawing on the lovely table centerpieces and the lucky winners were Eileen Perkins, Elizabeth Mastine, Helen Gallup, Matty Banfill, Mildred Holliday and Hughie Lancaster. Before play got underway, a birthday card was signed for Dot Thompson and a sympathy card for the family of the late Doris Weare. Military Whist was played at seven tables with high score of 27 flags earned by the table of Hughie & Jeannine Lancaster, Ron & Bev Jones. Low score went to Linda Badger, Sylvia Morin, Evie Banfill and Mr. Dummy, who filled in at the last minute.

“500” was the game of the day on April 17 with play at 5 tables. At the end of the afternoon, Hughie Lancaster took top score with 5000 points, followed by Linda Badger with 4620. Low score was earned by Matty Banfill.

On April 24, Matty Banfill, President, welcomed us all to an afternoon of Military Whist. Seven tables took part including Mr. & Mrs. Dummy and daughter “Alice”. The winning table with 31 flags was that of Captain Fran Dewar, Vera Hughes, Rose Oakley and Harry Morrill. Captain Jackie Ross with John Sharman, Evie Banfill and “Alice Dummy” achieved the low score.

Each week, the delicious lunches that conclude our afternoons are provided by all the members taking turns. This week the lunch included the celebration of the April birthdays – Norma Morin, Fran Dewar, Joyce Mastine, John Sharman and Harry Morrill. Greetings were sent to Dot Thompson who was unable to attend.

Another month has concluded. We are finally seeing some May flowers through the April rains that should have stopped falling by now. May will see the Richmond 50+ Club continuing to be active. Please stop by the Richmond Melbourne United Church on Monday afternoons to join in the activities.
