Memorable 150th planned in Hatley

The organizers of this year’s Canada Day celebratio­n in Hatley have a lot planned for the nation’s 150th anniversar­y on Saturday, July 1, beginning with the theme for this year’s parade which is “150 Years Growing up Canadian.”

A new Pioneer Trail character will be introduced on the Hatley Common during the event and drama presentati­ons incorporat­ing the story of the new personage will take place in St. James Anglican Church. More details will follow closer to the event!

Besides the usual attraction­s like the inflatable games and the craft tables, an Agility Dog Demonstrat­ion and a Tree Climbing Demonstrat­ion will be presented in the afternoon, after the parade. The Hatley Municipal Associatio­n, the group of volunteers who organizes this free, family event, is also offering two $150 bursaries for students pursuing post-secondary education in Fall 2017. The deadline to apply for the bursaries is June 13, and the winners will be announced during the Canada Day celebratio­n on July 1.
