Art without borders

- By Matthew Mccully

The Haskell Opera House will open its doors to the Stanstead community this evening for a free concert featuring a variety of local performers and groups.

The event, called Without Borders Art Sans Frontières is a project initiated by Cynthia Castonguay, who moved to the area six years ago and wanted to express her gratitude to the Stanstead community for its presence, support and warm welcome.

Castonguay enlisted the help of locals François Bergeron, Annie Chapdelaine, Lee-anne Chase, Josiane Samson, Benoît Tremblay, Nicolas Tremblay-côté and Marise Trépanier to form a committee and help organize the event, with a goal of bringing together French and English community members of all ages and backgrounds through art and music.

The show, which begins at 6 p.m. will include performances by Mike Goudreau, Choro Mundo, the Stanstead College Jazz band and Francois Bergeron, to name a few.

Following the concert, guests are invited to 10 Phelps for snacks provided by Action Famille, one of the sponsors of the event.

Admission to the concert is free, but donations are accepted. Any funds raised will go towards music instruments for local schools, according to Marise Trépanier, Recreation Coordinator for Stanstead and member of the Art Without Borders organizing committee.
