Featured pet: Beetle and Spider

Today we would like to share the story of Beetle and Spider.

Beetle and Spider came into our care in January 2017. When we first got word that two young dogs were at risk of being euthanized, simply because they were suffering from some kind of a skin condition causing them to lose clumps of fur, we knew we had to intervene.

Admittedly, when they first arrived and emerged from their crates, they were a sight for sore eyes but instantly, we knew we'd made the right decision. They weren't looking their best and their skin sores were certainly itchy and uncomfortable, but they were sweet and friendly and they definitely deserved to live.

Diagnosed with demodex mange (which is not contagious to other dogs) and with highly compromised immune systems, it would take time for them to heal. Our vet prescribed a treatment plan that included medication, a healthy diet, supplements, weekly medicated baths and regular check ups. We were ok with that though—we were in it for the long haul.

Both dogs were amazingly cooperative and good-natured patients and within about a week, we began to see noticeable improvements. As their health improved, so too did their energy level and it was great to watch them romping around together in our dog park.

We're glad to share that following almost 3 months of treatment, (not to mention numerous trips to and from our vet), both dogs are now healthy and best of all, both were adopted into wonderful forever homes where they are happy and loved and enjoying life to the fullest.

If they already have homes, why then are we featuring them this week? Because Beetle and Spider are the mascots for our 2017 dog walk fundraiser. The walk takes place this weekend and we'd love to see you there. If you can't join us, please consider sponsoring our two furry mascots. To do so, please visit safas.ca where you'll find a link to their Gofundme page (or go directly to www.gofundme.com/spider-and-beetlessponsor-us-page)

Beetle and Spider are alive today because of the financial support of our donors.

With your support, we can continue to help dogs who, like Beetle and Spider, require vet care that far exceeds their adoption fee. Our purpose after all, isn't simply to re-home unwanted animals, our purpose is to ensure that even those who are most in need, are given a chance to heal and a chance to thrive.

Our Annual Dog Walk Fundraiser is this weekend, Saturday June 3rd at 10:30 a.m. This is our biggest single fundraiser and we're counting on your support. The walk takes place along the beautiful Tomifobia Nature trail in Ogden (65 chemin Embury). It's a fun event and all dogs are welcome! Suggested donation of $30.00 per family to participate or have your walk sponsored by family and friends. For more information or to download a pledge sheet, please visit www.safas.ca.

Hope to see you there!
